Is Kubota RTV Street Legal?

Each State has its own urban driving requirements for utility vehicles on public streets. Because of this, it may be challenging for Kubota RTV owners to discern if their State allows them to drive it on public roads.

This means while your Kubota RTV may be legal in another state, it likely has a completely legal status in another.

As a long-time Kubota partner and one of the most reliable dealers of the best Kubota RTVs in Colorado, at Wickham, we aim to educate our clients on getting the most out of their utility vehicles.

According to a state law signed on May 7, 2021, Colorado prohibits the use of off-highway vehicles on public streets, roads, or highways of the State. Still, despite the law being statewide, there are minor exceptions in certain areas.

We'll dive deeper into them after exploring which states allow UTVs.

What States Allow Street Legal UTV?

Numerous local governments have permitted the use of OHVs (off-highway), like ATVs and UTVs, on all or part of their roadways, providing a variety of possibilities for lawful street driving.

UTVs are street legal in some states, depending on each local jurisdiction. Many states allow the presence of UTVs on public roads in certain circumstances and exceptions.

In some states, residents may drive their utility vehicles on public roads with a driver's license and by registering the UTVs. Because each State has its own legal requirements, it is best to check the ones in your State before getting out on public roads.

You must get in touch with an authority in the State and county where you intend to drive to find out the precise use conditions for recognized roads. This also includes requirements for registration and equipment.

A UTV may be street-legal as long as you meet the requirements included, in 17 States.

Arizona Colorado Hawaii
Idaho Illinois Indiana
Kansas Maine Michigan
Minnesota Missouri Montana
North Dakota South Dakota Tennessee
Washington Wyoming

Are There Any Legal Requirements for Driving a Kubota RTV?

As a Kubota RTV dealership in Colorado, our focus is on the legality of utility vehicles in our State.

In Colorado, public roads authorized for the use of off-highway vehicles (OHVs) by a city, town, county, or other local authority are the only places where UTVs and other OHVs may be driven.

Colorado's statute is written in a way that impacts street legal UTVs not registered for usage on roads as well as those registered in other states as street legal vehicles.

Some authorized public roads in Colorado are open to UTVs. These are primarily intended to improve access to lands that farmers, hunters, and off-road enthusiasts frequently utilize

Check out each location for more details about the exceptions and street legality of UTVs. Carefully examine and follow the regulations in each city or county since each county has its own regulations and requirements of where and how UTVs are permitted on the roads. Some even have specific off-highway vehicle routes.

It’s important to understand that the locations provided have opened roads to OHVs for transportation or recreation. OHVs used for agricultural purposes are still allowed on public roads and may have access to other jurisdictions than those listed here.

  • No minors under 16 driving the vehicles
  • On designated roads only

As we mentioned, each local jurisdiction may have differing rules, so it is best to check the ones in your specific location.
